Foreign Investment in Mexico Very Positive

Posted By: cabomarinakelina on Sep 01, 2011 in Mexico

Mexico’s Economy Minister Bruno Ferrari recently interviewed with Bloomberg’s Peter J. Brennan at a Mexican trade fair in Los Angeles on Aug. 19-Ferrari suspects Mexico to have over 20 billion in foreign investment by the end of this year. Much higher than what was expected.  Analyst around the world have been talking about Mexico and investing in Mexico because Mexico is the most reasonable and hospitable with less manufacturing cost in the Northern Hemisphere.  About 25% below than the US.

Economist are expecting a 4% growth in Mexico this year.  The single most important investment that has not been announced until now is the Automotive industry. More companies are moving production to Mexico due to rising prices in other countries including Asia.

Construction Progress for August

Posted By: cabomarinakelina on Aug 27, 2011 in Construction, Los Cabos

It has been a little over a month since visiting Cabo Riviera because I have been on vacation. I didn’t think much would have changed because it is summer and in Los Cabos everything tends to run a little slower than usual. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Somebody turned the high speed switch on this development and I am amazed as to how much has progressed since the last time I had been here. Here are a few comparison photos to check out.

Marina Basin view from Marina Island site

All that dirt from the marina has been transferred over to the Beach Club site and Golf Course area.  Because there was so much rain in the area recently it was necessary to open the channels a fraction in order to allow for the water to go out.

Phase I of Cabo Riviera has never looked better in the last three years.  There is construction happening all throughout the resort with major focus on the Jetties, infrastructure and roads, Marina basin and facilities.  Although a formal announcement has not been made, I am happy to say that we have recently contracted one of the largest saltwater marina operations on the West Coast called Almar Marines.  Keep posted for further information coming soon.

If you will be visiting in the Los Cabos area soon and are curious about this unique resort please do not hesitate to get in contact with me.  I will be happy to provide transportation for you to see this exciting resort.

Living the Dream in Los Cabos

Posted By: cabomarinakelina on Aug 23, 2011 in Los Cabos, Mexico

As my kids woke up this morning, dreary-eyed but full of excitement for the first day of school, I too was excited to get back to work after taking some much needed time off this summer. When the kids go back to school it usually marks the end of summer for me, however, we all know there is still about a month left and of course the heat is a reminder to us of that.

The family and I did a lot of fun activities both here in Los Cabos and in the United States. When you live in Los Cabos full-time it is important to find time to get away. Anywhere! When we do go away we always find ourselves longing to come back and live the fortunate life we have here.

We are reminded each time we go back to the U.S. that the American Dream is not for us. That dream has been innundated with high consumer costs, negative news reports, ugly politics and confusing debt crisis problems.

We love Mexico because the people have not loss hope, are more aligned with living life, being friends, and enjoy each other while striving to live today. It is also incredibly more affordable. Los Cabos has become our dream and while spending time away it has become more clear to us than ever that our 5 year commitment to Los Cabos is now more permanent and where we want to live.

Conservation Efforts with Beach-Nesting Birds at Cabo Riviera

least_tern_FWS

Popping up all over our Cabo Riviera beaches are Least Tern bird nests.  What is a Least Tern? The smallest of American Terns, the Least Tern is found nesting on sandy beaches along the southern coasts of the United States down the Baja Peninsula and up the major river systems far into the interior of the continent.

The Least Tern prefers sandy beaches for nesting which is why the beaches at Cabo Riviera is littered with little nests at the moment.  Least Terns habitat would mostly consist of seacoasts, beaches, bays, estuaries, lagoons, lakes and rivers, breeding on sandy or gravelly beaches and banks of rivers or lakes.  These birds feed mostly on little fish or invertebrates. You might have seen these types of birds plunging in head first into the water to catch their fish.

Our conservation efforts include locating and marking the nesting area with sticks and caution tape in the area that the birds are nesting.  Nesting starts around April and continues through August.  It is around August that our Sea Turtles return to nest so please use extreme caution if you decide to use vehicles on the beach.  At Cabo Riviera you will see nesting areas marked clearly with sticks.  We have made great strides in conserving the animals in our natural wildlife.  For more information about the Least Tern, please visit All About Birds.

G-20 Summit 2012 in Los Cabos (updated)

Posted By: cabomarinakelina on Jun 22, 2011 in Blogging/News, Los Cabos, Mexico

Wrote in March 2011: I have recently read via twitter and Facebook that Los Cabos will be the location of the G20 Summit Mexico in 2012. This is great news for our Los Cabos economy and proof that if it is safe enough for 20 world leaders it is safe enough for our tourists and residents. According to Wikipedia “It can be expected that each leader of the G-20 will bring his or her own agenda to the summit. Mexico believes the forum can better represent developing countries in both vision and policy. Under the leadership of President Felipe Calderon, Mexico will seek to expand the scope of the G-20′s development focus.”

Updated Information as of June 2011: During a visit to Los Cabos by President Felipe Calderon, he confirmed rumors that the G-20 Summit will be held in Los Cabos in 2012.  Los Cabos was chosen “to put Mexico in the international spotlight under worldwide focus and to show all of the many positive things we usually do not get to show and talk about.”

Cabo Riviera Beach Picnic in June

Beach Picnic Family

Sunday, Father’s Day, was another beautiful day for a picnic at Cabo Riviera.  There was a nice breeze off the Sea of Cortez to keep temperatures comfortable.  The location of the picnic moved closer to the water to allow for views of the wonderful beach while eating and enjoying live Spanish music.  Escalades and boats were lined up ready for anyone that wanted to see current progress by land or marina, which proved to be a very busy day for us sales agents.  I happened to be on tour 4 of the 5 hours during the picnic, and enjoying every opportunity to share the latest news.

Attendance was great, and the kids swimming without a care in the world, of course were the happiest.  If you joined us for the Cabo Riviera Beach Picnic we hope you had a wonderful time and for those that missed it this time email me to find out when the next one will be.  kelina@cabomarinakelina.com.

K.I.S.S. Guacamole Recipe

Posted By: cabomarinakelina on Jun 14, 2011 in Recipes
guacamole

I love me some guacamole and don’t you forget it. There is rarely a day that goes by that I don’t have an avocado in the kitchen just waiting to be mashed, smashed, chopped, spooned, mixed and served. I think I make a pretty awesome guacamole dip. The secret is K.I.S.S. (I will explain that later).

Now some people (like my husband) do all kinds of weird stuff to their guacamole and I just don’t get it. He adds salsa or sour cream or who knows what. The other day I think he added cucumbers. Are you kidding me? People, people, let’s not ruin a good thing that is naturally perfect already.

I knew Mexico was the best option for us when I found out how cheap the avocado’s are here. Good bye to the days of paying $1 or more per avocado and welcome to guacamole and chips nearly every day, which has allowed me to perfect my guacamole. No matter how full I am at the end of a meal, if there is left over guacamole I wouldn’t dare let it go to waste.

Kelina’s K.I.S.S. Guacamole Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 ripe avocado (You can tell you have a ripe avocado if the nub where it attached to the tree falls off easily.)
  • 1 lime (small kind)
  • Garlic Salt
  • Crushed Pepper

K.I.S.S. : Keep It Simple Silly

Mix all the ingredients together and garlic salt to taste. It is just that simple and a true guacamole.

Enjoy and for goodness sake, don’t waste the guacamole.

Wet-Fun Aquatic Park Nearby

tobogan

Man it’s getting hot around here but that doesn’t hold us back much. It just means we will spend more time in the water and that is just what the kids and I did yesterday with some friends.

Last year a water park that rivals any American water park popped up in the middle of nowhere. Literally! Thirty minutes North of the San Jose Airport and about 30 minutes from Cabo Riviera, is a little town called Caduaño. It is only a one road stretch of town and I think I counted 10 homes. There are no other services in this town like grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations, but gosh darn it there is a great water park. Hello…priorities! Last year we went about 3 times and each and every time it was wonderful. How could it not be when it’s only $8 dollars for kids and $12.50 for adults and guaranteed all day fun in state-of-the-art water park heaven?  So on this hot Saturday morning I packed up the kids and headed out to Wet-Fun.   If you have kids or you are a kid at heart, you will love this place.

Also a good mention is a delicious restaurant that just opened recently called Los Compadres. This place is also in the middle of nowhere about 5 minutes from the town of  Mira Flores which is the halfway point to and from Cabo Riviera before entering or leaving San Jose. It has an outdoor kids playground fit for ages 12 and under with brincolines, wood playground, swings, fake grass and shade. Oh, and babysitting so you can eat your food in peace. SOLD!!!! The food is delicious and reasonably priced. The restaurant itself is huge and very clean with cool decorations like statues and artistic touches.

This place makes for a nice stop on a trip back from Costco or Home Depot in Cabo San Lucas on your way home to Cabo Riviera.
